At least six cases of salmonella poisoning have been linked to organic eggs from a Minnesota farm that were sold in three states, agriculture and health officials said. 

After an investigation by state and federal agencies, several thousand cartons of eggs produced or packaged at the farm in Owatonna and sold under three brand names were voluntarily recalled late Wednesday, the farm’s owner said, according to UPI.

The Minnesota Agriculture Department said Wednesday that it traced the salmonella to the Larry Schultz Organic Farm in Owatonna, a small city in Steele County about 65 miles south of the Twin Cities, the Associated Press reports. 

Under the brand names Larry Schultz Organic Farm, Lunds & Byerly’s Organic and Kowalski’s Organic, the eggs had been shipped to supermarkets, restaurants, food wholesalers and food-service companies in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

The six salmonella cases were reported from Aug. 12 to Sept. 24, all in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, state officials said.

Three people were hospitalized but have been released.
