In a news release Thursday, Satur Farms of Cutchogue, NY, said Salmonella was detected during a routine test by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. As a result, the company voluntarily stopped distributing the cilantro, although it said two subsequent lots of cilantro tested negative for Salmonella.
However, Satur Farms said tests on the seed indicate it may be suspect, so further analysis is being done to determine if it is the source of the contamination.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the cilantro.
The Satur Farms Cilantro was distributed to six food-service customers in New York City and Long Island, New York. None of the recalled cilantro was shipped to retail markets.
The cilantro was distributed in 1/2 lb. and 1 lb. bulk bags, which contained a small white stick-on label with the four-digit lot number 6347.
