Alderman Farms Sales Corporation has announced it is recalling one pint containers of Certified Organic Cherry Tomatoes because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

An Alderman Farms’ wholesale customer in Florida purchased 10 cartons containing 12 one-pint containers of the affected cherry tomatoes on 5/22/13. There were no other cherry tomatoes

26 people in Iowa have fallen ill with a “relatively uncommon” strain of Salmonella Enteritidis, according to the Iowa Deparmtnet of Public Health. The illnesses are spread across 19 Iowa counties.

Investigators have not identified the source, though chicken or eggs may be likely.

The Alabama Department of Public Health is continuing to investigate what sickened at least two-thirds of the 100 people who ate a meal after a funeral in York, Alabama on July 6, but confirmed Friday that five of them have been diagnosed with Salmonella, which is commonly found in raw and undercooked meats and eggs.

The CDC reported today that a total of 134 persons infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Heidelberg were reported from 13 states.
